João Paulo de Jesus Faustino (1967, Leiria/Portugal) has Post-Doctoral research at the Research Centre for Media and Journalism of Nova University (Lisbon) and the Centre of Tele-Information of Columbia University (NY). He was Visiting Researcher in several European and North American universities, namely: Stanford University (EUA), North Texas University (EUA), Fordham University (EUA), Suffolk University EUA), Jonkoping University (Sweden), Oxford University (UK), Manchester University (UK), Navarra University (Spain), and Complutense University of Madrid (Spain). Paulo Faustino teaches media marketing, management, economics and public policies in Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral programs in national and international universities. In Portugal teaches at Porto University, as well as media management, economics and marketing in the Media Communication School of Lisbon and in the School of Education and Social Sciences of Leiria (in this School, he is one of the coordinators of the Master in Communication and Media).
He is Visiting Professor in various international universities, namely in Brazil (Universidade Estadual do Rio de Janeiro, Universidade de São Paulo, Universidade do Rio do Vale do Sinos) and Macau/China (Instituto Politécnico de Macau e San Joseph University), Russia (Lomonsov State University) Russia (National Research University). He was professor of Portuguese media economics, integrated in a Master in Communication, from the Catholic University in Lisbon (here he also coordinated one Master in Media and Entertainment). He concluded his PhD in Media Management at Complutense University of Madrid, Faculty of Communication (with Cun Lauden) with cooperation of Jonkonping University (Sweden), and his thesis was related with management strategies and markets dynamics in the context of press companies. Paulo Faustino holds a degree in Human Resources Management and a Master in Economic and Organizational Sociology, from the Technical University of Lisbon. He has also completed Advanced Courses in Media and Entertainment Management (from the Anderson School of Management – University of California, Los Angeles) and Publishing Management (Stanford University – where he was a member of the Alumni Advisory Board).
Paulo Faustino is the founder, partner and president of Media XXI/Formalpress, an international company focused on Consulting, Research and Book Publishing, with many published titles in several languages, including Portuguese, French, English, Spanish and Chinese. Paulo Faustino was board member and co-founder of the European Association of Media Management Education (EMMA) and is a Chaiman of the International Media Management Academic Association (IMMAA), as well part of scientific board from relevant international academic events like World Media Economics Conference, for example. Previously, he worked as advisor for the State Secretary and Presidency Minister of the XV and XVI Constitutional Governments. Paulo Faustino has conducted consultancy work for several private and public institutions like, for example, the World Bank and the Portuguese Media Regulatory Entity. Was General Secretary of the Portuguese Media Confederation.
He was also an executive board advisor at Lusomundo Media (former media group from the Portugal Telecom’s group). Additionally, was Vice-President of the Portuguese Press Association, President of the Communication Observatory and board member of the Centre for Professional Training in Journalism (Cenjor). He is the author and co-author of nine books and circa twenty scientific articles published in national and international journals, as well as in books about media economics, public policies and management. He is a member of the editorial board of the following journals: The International Media Management Journal; Journal of Innovative Marketing; Journal of Spanish Language Media; Brands Trends Journal and Journal of Journalism and Mass Communication. Paulo Faustino has taken part in several international conferences and courses as a teacher, speaker, chairman, moderator, and as part of round tables, in the following countries: Angola, Mozambique, Canada, EUA, Brazil, China, Switzerland, German, Serbian, Macao, Japan, United Kingdom, Russian, Hungary, Cape Green, Guinea Bissau, Spain, France, Greece and Australia. Faustino is one of the most dynamic international researchers and professors in the field of Media Economics and Management. He already organized several scientific events and he is frequently invited to integrate scientific committees in this domain. His research is focused on the Media and Creative Industry Studies, namely: Ownership Concentration, Public Policies, Economics, and Management Creative Industries. Recently published the book entitled: Creative Industries, Media and Clusters (in Portuguese).
