María Elena Gutiérrez is a Professor and Researcher in the School of Communication at Universidad Panamericana, campi Guadalajara, México. She was formerly Dean of the School of Communication and Director of the Secretary of Academic Committee in the School of Business and Economics, in the same institution. She has been a visiting Professor at the College of Media & Communication, Texas Tech University, United States (2014-2015). Gutiérrez Rentería was a member of the National System of Researchers in Mexico (2008-2016) and currently serves on the International Journal on Media Management. She is a Doctor in Public Communication at Universidad de Navarra, Spain, and has a Diploma of the Institute for Media and Entertainment (New York). Her bachelor’s degree is in Business and Finances at Universidad Panamericana, and she also has a specialty in Anthropology and Ethics in the same institution. Gutiérrez Rentería is the Mexican scholar who leads the research about digital news consumption in Mexico, belongs to Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, in the University of Oxford.
